Introduction

Hello Everyone! My name is Libbey Gionet. I am a sophomore at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and am pursuing a BA in Elementary Education. My parents are both educators, so teaching runs in the family. I am increasingly more excited about teaching the further I progress in my education! I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and I still live here today. I enjoy cross-country skiing, roller skiing, hiking, baking cookies, and going on walks with my dog, Larry. In Anchorage, I own a small bakery business where I create custom sugar cookies. Baking has been a great way for me to become increasingly more involved and active in my community.

This piece of art is one of my favorites because it depicts the beautiful state I have grown up in and it is also filled with an abundance of vibrant colors!

I have always enjoyed looking at and examining different art forms. I don't paint or draw, but I create art through the custom sugar cookies I make for my bakery. It may not be a traditional art form, but cookie decorating still involves the utilization of different color schemes, textures, details, patterns, materials, and much more. While I haven't been to many art museums, I still find them greatly interesting and wish I could attend them more frequently. One art museum that I really enjoyed was the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC. Hopefully, my relationship with art will continue to grow in a meaningful way!

This nature painting video is both relaxing to watch and awe-inspiring to witness! I really enjoy watching individuals create art that speaks to them!

  1. I also love Alaskan art. My favorite is Barbara Lavallee. Her work is done in transparent watercolor and is seen throughout many children’s books that depict various native cultures in Alaska. There is such joy in her art, and my students love feeling values and represented!! Since you are going into teaching, you should check out her work, if you haven’t already!

  2. We have a lot in common. My mother was a teacher, and I taught elementary music for 21 years. My husband and I ran a summertime restaurant in Fairbanks for over 20 years. It is still going, but we sold it to another family. Thanks for the introduction.

  5. I love this Art piece it depicts all the things that remind me of my time in Alaska. I also understand the part where you say you don't paint or draw traditionally. That spoke out to me the most since like my self, I am not experienced enough or have had the time to start. I the cookie decoration is a good example of how committed you are to Art.
